OnesieWorld

For some silly reason, Frank and I have always liked the word "onesie." But it's denotation in our warped minds is currently in transition from being our nickname for the sole male waiter at our favorite local tiki bar, to the real thing -- a cute lil' snapsuit for babies. Big difference.

Anyhoo, what I am getting at is that I've started buying a few baby clothes! We will need them while in Kaz, and I hear they are very expensive over there. Plus, I just couldn't resist any longer. There are so many cute and clever clothes out there in OnesieWorld. It would be easy to get carried away. I'm trying my best to be practical. I think my only saving grace right now is not knowing our baby's gender. But I was happy to find some things that would work great for a boy or a girl.

Our child will probably be between 6-12 months old, so I was advised to buy size 6-9 months because Asians and orphanage children tend to be on the small side. Anything that doesn't work can become a donation to the baby house. We are still on track for going this winter, so I'm focusing mostly on cozy stuff.

I explored a store called Once Upon a Baby, which buys/sells all kinds of gently used baby items. It appeals to my "reduce, reuse, recycle" sensibilities, especially since baby clothes are often worn only a few times. Many of the things there still had tags on them.

Below are photos of a few of my finds there, and elsewhere. I can't wait until they are all filled out with chubby little arms, legs and feet!

Regina.....I love the baby clothes & those boots (adorable)!!!

During Veteran's Day weekend, Pat and I went a little wild on clothes and shoes. We've bought gender neutral clothes for a long time. Six months ago we decided to try for a girl. It wasn't only until recently that we started shopping for a girl.

My goodness we have never shopped like this before. Each thing we picked up was cuter than the next. Very difficult to back away - the sales we found were incredible! That being said, I have a friend who is going to take me to a children's consignment shop. I'm excited! I may even dare to shop the day after Thanksgiving!

I saw your comment on our blog. It would be exciting if we ended up going to Kaz at the same time!!

I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Regina, I just found your blog and you are hysterical. I totally remember learning Russian for both our adoptions and we still use it around the house today, mostly "Nyet!" :)

Check out www.cafepress.com, they have very funny onesies!

CUTE! Love baby clothes. Our first purchase was a little shirt that said, "Party, my crib, 3am"

So cute, especially those cute cute boots! I think those will come in very handy in Kaz. I know how exciting this time is and buying clothes makes it so REAL. Before you know it, you will be holding your sweet baby in your arms and you will know love like you have never known before. I am so glad you are sharing your journey...it is beautiful to watch!

Love you guys-
Amy

You found some good stuff - the boots are just too cute! Baby clothes are the best. I am still holding out on the clothes purchases. I am looking forward to buying that first baby girl outfit.

Very cute! I'll have to look for that store - or something just like it. I found a few things on the sale racks but nothing nearly as adorable. My mother went nuts last weekend at a Kohl's sale so I'll have to take inventory after they visit next weekend. I found it very challenging buying "unisex" at that age (we are not specifying gender either) as boys stuff had race cars and bulldozers and girls stuff was really girly with pink and frills. Keep the photos coming!

Very cute! The start of the shopping phase is so exciting! I get giddy when I think about it. I'm just impressed you held out this long- you must have a lot of willpower!!

Today's more modern baby onesies are the best! Isn't it fun to start shopping even though it's not yet time to go to Kaz? I try to stop myself, but every once in a while, you just have to grab a few!

Good luck!

I did some SEVERE damage as we are requesting a lil girl. The clohtes are so adorable. I went NUTS. it was all on sale, and it just accumulated entirely too quickly. I did an inventory list and was suprised i had bought so much. :) So, I have stopped. I bought 9-12 months, 12 months, and some 12-18 months, plus some adorable boots too. They are so cute, it's hard.

One thing i have heard, leave the tags ON. It's an "insult" to offer the baby house used clothes. I had never known that. I wanted to wish them all before hand, but, what if none of them fit. I have an entire closet full-and you should see my inventory list. It's 3 pages. OOPS! but, i figure-i can donate them if they dont work, plus i Have a few friends and family members with baby girls so i could also give to them. That is one reason I am excited about 2 trips. I can come home knowing the babies EXACT size, so that i can bring what fits, and decide about the other stuff. Hopefully, it's stuff she can grow into. It's all so darn adorable. My son, age 9, is ONLY into shorts (that cover his knees) and t-shirts (preferably Holister or Quicksilver) so really, it's not that much fun to buy. :) But i love him tons anyway. :)

Hi Regina,

Thanks for your messages on our blog. I have really enjoyed reading your blog. It's wonderful! You asked us about what Russian language preparation we've had. I did some of the Pimsleur audio CD's and found them helpful. Steve and I also used the "extra" time between our frustrating July trip and our real journey now to take a 10 week Russian course with an instructor. I found that to be a good addition to the audio partly because it helped to facilitate the learning of the cyrillic language, for me at least. I think that you will find that knowing just a little bit of the Russian language will be helpful. Although I knew a little Russian before our first trip I know a bit more now, though still not as much as I'd like. The thing I didn't know last time, but do now is the cyrillic alphabet. I really like being able to recognize some signs and to be able to sound out words here that I read. Very few people that we have run into in Kaz know much of any English at all. Oh, another thought. Numbers are definitely another really helpful thing to know. Although most times when you buy things you will see the numbers on the digital display, there have definitely been times where it has come in handy. Hopefully I haven't written too much here. Let me know if you want any more info and we can email.
By the way, I love the outfits!

Lucky me my brother has twin 2 year old boys so they are saving all of their clothes to pass on to us. We also get a crib, highchair, everything! (and 2 of each which means mamaw-daycare will take the second of everything.) With the adoption being so expensive and not knowing how big our boy will be, I'm very reluctant to spend for new clothes. That's what grandparents are for!

You got some really cute clothes, I love second hand stuff, I have learned that babies (at least my boys) stay clean for about 5-10 min after you change them & they stained pretty much everything. ;) Those boots are adorable!

I saw your post about Asian and orphange babis being a little smaller. We took thought that and brought 6 - 9 month clothes.

When we met our son he was 9.999 months old and quite tall and fit only into the 12 month clothes.

So much for Asians being short!
