Antsy

I want to go, and I want to go now. Habibi has waited long enough. We have waited long enough. We are so ready to love that little child who needs a mommy and daddy. Every day that passes is a day that he/she isn't receiving the full attention, love and nutrition and that is needed to grow up as healthy and happy as possible. That is distressing.

There is a 9 hour time difference between us and Kaz, so I figure that the government officials leave their offices at about the same time we arrive at ours. They are working while we are sleeping, and so I presume our LOI would probably arrive in Andrea’s inbox in the middle of the night. Surely Andrea would call us as soon as she opens her e-mail in the morning and sees it, so when I don’t receive her call by noon I figure it’s not happening today. But then I think maybe she’s waiting to call until we are home together in the evening, and then my hope is reignited. But then I know she wouldn’t want us to miss the FedEx pickup time for our Visa applications, so surely she would call asap. Hope snuffed again.

Hey, wait a minute. I just remembered that tomorrow is a holiday in Kaz. It’s People’s Unity Day. Nobody will be working that day OR the next day according to this. Drat! Then it’s the weekend. Double drat! Boy, do they love their holidays over there. Come on my celebratory Kaz friends…let’s get this show on the road!

Sigh. Oh well. At least we will be able to follow through with some fun plans for this weekend. And the weather here is divine.

Maybe Monday will bring us the good news. Please let it bring us some good news!

In the meantime here are some recent photos from around the house.

World Map in Baby's Room

New Crib Location and Handpainted Sign

Handpainted Table
(The project that almost never ended.)

Cradle in Master Bedroom

(This is a Ruopoli family cradle that is actually very large and will
fit a toddler just fine. We plan to try co-sleeping with our child
for the first few months to promote bonding. We will keep
this cradle beside our bed in case Habibi is a very active sleeper
and it just doesn't work out having him/her between us.)

Paperwork: The Everlasting Gobstopper

Happy Japanese Maple

Jasmine's First Bloom

The last part of waiting is the hardest. Its frustrating because it can happen at any moment and its like do you make plans with the hopes you will be cancelling them, it is really hard. I hope you can enjoy your weekend and I will keep sending happy thoughts your way. I do agree the weather is divine, just fabulous.

Sending hugs your way.

What a beautiful room Habibi will have. I love the wall color- is that textured plaster? It is gorgeous.
Enjoy your weekend and happy thoughts for Monday. For whatever it is worth, we got our LOI call at 4:00 in the afternoon, so who knows??

No doubt about it, holidays in Kaz bite the big one when you're waiting for government offices to work. One or two minor holiday can set you back weeks when they celebrate each one for like 4 days.

I know I've said this before, but I just love Habibi's room color!

I think it might be nice to live in Kaz just for all the holidays. It's like there's a party going on at least once a week and everyone is invited!

I love the Japanese Maples!! There are only a very few kinds that do well in Zone 4 though. :-( Yours is beautiful.

I can't wait till you go too! Maybe not *quite* as much as you :-) but I'm feeling antsy also!

Enjoy the weekend. Sit out on your beautiful back deck, mix cocktails have friends over, eat great food and enjoy your time together. Before you know it you will be eating mystery meat, walking through muddy streets and having the adventure of your life in Kaz. Those LOI are always better when they side swip you.

Best Wishes and we will send good vibes your way,

The Kieffer's

PS. We listen to your CD in the car and Rhys always shouts out "Miss Regina dat Miss Regina singing right der" it is so cute. I think he misses you guys, as do his parents.

Co-sleeping is wonderful. We have done it ever since Tougy left the baby house and I think we all sleep better because of it. There is something so magical about watching her sleep and waking to find her snoring on your pillow.

The photos are wonderful. Love the wall map and cradle. All of our agency news came first thing in the morning and as for the holidays over in Kaz, there are certainly a great number of them and they definitely play into the timing of many adoptions. Your day is coming, and it will be everything you hoped it would be. Take Care and have a great weekend.

Boy do I know that feeling well! I lived it for months, willing with all my might for the phone to ring or the email to appear. But it really will be any day now for you so you might as well live in the moment!

I love the room - how did you do the walls? Beautiful!

And I will say that we must have been on a similar wavelength as I was just admiring the landscaping in front of the house which I planted last Summer and includes a Japanese maple that is looking equally happy. And my jasmine is in a pot (they don't winter here) but blooming and smelling lovely (it's my favorite)!

Enjoy your weekend cuz good things are coming to you soon! I just know it!

Girl-i feel your pain, except I know NOTHING about when we're going, just nothing. So, I'm booking Sean for camp in June, and planning our summer. So frickin frustratin!!!

Your time is soon soon soon!! I love Habibi's room-the map is great. I love the cradle-so cool!
I'm all for co-sleepin--I got a 10 year old who ends up in our bed almost every night still. Some say that is bad, I say, I will take it until he no longer wants to be seen with us. It will happen soon enough. For now, I don't even hear him when he sneaks in. He's the "stealth sneaker inner"

Your garden is GORGEOUS! I don't cook, and I don't have a green thumb.

I am worthless-BUT, I did get an EXCELLENCE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE from a Steinmart mystery shopper today. GO ME!
And, I found out that my tops are NOT TANK TOPS. They are sleeveless shirts and "tunics". Too bad the dress code police for the field trip don't work in Fashion. I know all the real words. But, it's not a tank top-it's a tunic!!

:)

If I drank Gin and Tonic, I'd enjoy it in my tunic!

Wow! Everything is so beautiful, down to the paperwork organization! We are crossing our fingers for news early next week for you! Maybe we are having second child syndrome, but our "nursery" is still my office, the floor covered with leftover detritus from taxes, graduation, bad online shopping choices and princess stickers... Good gravy! You'd think the adoption people could work overtime, ya know? On the other hand, Habibi gets to enjoy his/her last People's Unity Day in Kaz. It'll be good practice for his/her first Family Unity Day, coming soon to a Baby House near you!

I've decided you need a holiday to commemorate something in between Meetcha Day and Gotcha Day. Something like Realization Day, when you realize who Habibi is. (since I have no idea how selection actually works) Here are my ideas:

Interdependence Day
East/Wester
Un-Labor Day
V-KAP Day (Victory Over Kazakstan's Adoption Procedures Day)
Memory Day
NoLongerHolloween
Thanksgiving (oldie, but goodie...)

What a beautiful room! Since Habibi will be in college by the time I get my mind wrapped around having kids, will you come paint my nursery?! :)

Have a nice mint julep this weekend, and relax for the last time in your lives this weekend! Soon! Soon!

"The Everlasting Gobstopper!!" Isn't that the truth -- I love it!

You guys are SO ready! All you need to do is get the visa and head to the airport. It will happen very, very soon.

I love the room too. Mine isn't near finished. Have become paralyzed after I nixed the original decorating scheme, but after the walls were painted. Need to work on the salvage plan.

I'm also jealous of the garden and blooming/growing plant-life. I SO miss California at times! I've gone from a large yard with multiple flower/veggie gardens to a pair of pots on my deck. I loved puttering in the yard, but also realize there won't be much time to putter for awhile. ;)
